Presented by Dr Ed Schofield, School of Geosciences, University of Aberdeen

For over 100 years, pollen analysis – the study of pollen and spores – has been a key tool used for reconstructing past vegetation. This talk will explain the science underpinning the method and will outline how the vegetation of the British Isles has changed over the period since the end of the Ice Age (approximately the last 11,750 years). Particular emphasis will be placed upon the vegetation history of the area around Bennachie, northeast Scotland.
