Nominations for Teams are Open!
TechFest is proud to launch STEM on the Wind Farm, an exciting new initiative designed to give senior pupils across Scotland a hands-on introduction to one of the country’s fastest-growing and most vital sectors: renewable energy.
Building on the success of our long-established STEM in the Pipeline programme, this project challenges S6 pupils to step into the role of industry professionals and explore the real-world development of a wind farm, from initial concept through to full proposal.

How It Works
Participating schools register teams of up to six students, who form a mock company and collaborate to design their own wind farm project. Reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the renewable energy sector, students take on roles that mirror real industry functions as they work through:
- Site assessment and feasibility studies
- Turbine selection and layout optimisation
- Communications strategy and stakeholder engagement
- Environmental considerations and permitting
- Financial planning and project delivery
Each team produces a written proposal and presents their work at a final showcase event. Throughout the programme, students connect with industry professionals who provide mentorship and insight, helping them understand the breadth of STEM careers within the wind energy sector.
